I hope everyone is having a great 4th of July weekend. I’m so glad that I’m not traveling for the next few months. If you follow me on Instagram (@lafrenchgirlreport) you saw that I traveled every single month since January either for work or visiting the family in France. It was great but exhausting too. So staying at home in Chicago in July and August makes me really happy. First of all this is the best time to be in Chicago, secondly it’s my opportunity to slow down and do even more of what makes me happy.
The term wellness means lots of different things to people. For me it means taking care of my body, mind and spirit. It is about being mindful of what you do, what you eat, what ingredients you choose, what product you apply on your skin and which you use in your house. It’s also about being happy and focusing on what you have in your life and being grateful about that. Enjoying the present moment and focusing on solutions instead of problems are other mindsets that contribute to my well-being. Long story short, for me wellness is not just about working out to keep your body strong. It’s more than that. It’s a mindset, to focus on my optimal wellbeing and to prioritize it. The older I get, the more interested I am in learning about how to maximize and extend my health.
You can read more on my approach to wellness in those articles: "Well-Being and Beauty and "Healthy Habits to Feel Good" published on La French Girl under the wellness section.
Anyway I’m excited about enjoying the Chicago summer, slowing down and doing more of what makes me feel good, such as:
Enjoying the early morning sun on our rooftop, it is definitely my favorite part of the day. I love the early morning light and silence. I find it very soothing and energizing at the same time. This is my “me time” where I practice meditation and enjoy a swim in our pool.
Reading more books about heath and wellness. I’m currently reading “Brain Food” by Lisa Mosconi. The next ones will be: “Young Forever” by Mark Hyman and “The Hormone Cure” by Sara Gottfried. For all my female readers out there, it is extremely important to understand the different phases of your hormonal cycle and know what to do, so that you can thrive through every stage of your life. I also highly recommend the book “Lifespan” by David Sinclair.
Writing about everything I’m interested and passionate about to share my experiences and knowledge hoping to inspire people live a healthy, stylish and fulfilling life.
Cooking yummy healthy food to nourish my body. Hello tasty salads and grilling season!
Nourishing my skin. Summer time is great but hard on the skin. Mine gets very dehydrated and prone to hyperpigmentation. So I have to be very careful and give my skin extra love during the summer months. The one product that has been helping my skin against hyperpigmentation is a Vitamin C serum. I’m currently using and liking the Obagi Professional C Serum.
Catching up on TV Shows. My husband and I just finished watching “Sugar” with Colin Farell on AppleTV. It’s so good. I highly recommend it. I really liked “Palm Royale“ and the “New Look” too. Both are on AppleTV. Circling back to health and wellness, there are 3 documentaries on that topic I recommend watching on Netflix: “Hack your heath: the secrets of your gut”, “You are what you eat, a twin experiment” and “Live to 100: secrets of the blue zones”.
Exploring the different city neighborhoods by motorcycle or scooter with my husband. This is our thing. We love finding new spots and going to the many summer street festivals.
Riding my bike along the lake
Playing tennis with my husband
Attending outdoor yoga classes. I’m excited about the free yoga classes held in the park near our house this summer.
Now your turn, tell me what makes you happy?! and wish to do more?
Remember that the best things in life are free!
XO from your favorite French Girl on the Stack! 😉
