How to Elevate Your Sweater Game
5 tips to make it chic
We are deep into sweater season and you might get bored of wearing a sweater almost every single day at this point. I’m with you! It can be challenging sometimes to remain stylish while facing brutally cold weather, especially if you’re in the Midwest or the East Coast! We’ve had an extremely cold winter here in Chicago since January. Grabbing a turtleneck or the warmest sweater in my wardrobe has became a no brainer when it comes to choosing an outfit to stay warm. Now, do you want to know how to elevate your sweater to add more style to your look? Well, that is the topic of this month’s article on lafrenchgirl.com and you, my dear subscribers are the first one to read it. Let’s dive in and make your sweaters look more elegant with the following stylings tips.
1) Put a blazer jacket on it
I LOVE a blazer jacket. This is a MUST-HAVE in any women’s wardrobe. It’s so easy to elevate an outfit by simply wearing this type of jacket. It makes you look sharp straight away. Ladies, make sure you have at least one blazer jacket in your closet! I have many of them in different styles and colors. In the winter I wear it on top of a turtleneck sweater and throw my coat on top. It’s all about layering up to stay warm, yet making it chic! The blazer I wear in the picture above is from JCrew.
2) Add winter sophistication with a faux-fur sleeveless vest
Nothing is better than a faux-fur sleeveless vest to bring on the chic Apres-Ski vibes to your closet! Mine is from Mango and is very old. I bought it in my 20’s when I was living in Austria! I still love it and wear it frequently. It definitely adds a touch of sophistication to your sweater.
3) Make a statement with a chunky necklace
A chunky necklace is another way to elevate the style of your sweater. I love a good chunky gold necklace and the one I wear in the picture above, is the Puffy Heart by Roxanne Assoulin. What’s great about this necklace is that you can wear it different ways, short by doubling the chain or long. I like that the length of this necklace is adjustable. This is such a statement piece.
4) Wear a pair of tall leather boots
Wearing a nice pair of tall leather boots with heels, on top of skinny jeans helps to uplift a basic outfit into a more sophisticated one instantly. Personally, I wear my black leather boots from Ralph Lauren on top of skinny jeans ALL the time in the winter. Work or play, this is my go to outfit of choice when it’s crazy cold outside. This outfit not only is easy to wear but most importantly it keeps your legs warm. I’ve barely worn a skirt or dress this winter in Chicago because it has been too cold! Now you want to make sure to pick a pair of boots that are real leather and have a heel. This is what’s going to truly elevate your style.
5) Dress it up with a belt
Wearing a belt elevates an outfit instantly and makes it feel more put-together. The belt is the finishing touch to your outfit, like the lipstick is to your makeup. It’s this little something that make you look more elegant. The black leather belt I wear is from Madewell. I’m currently looking for a wide light brown belt to wear with a midi skirt and sweater. I will report on that, once I find one I like. Anyway, another idea to elevate your sweater game!
